REFLECTIONS

Christopher Hitchens drives me nuts.  Get him away from the subject of Radical Islam, or the Clintons, and he is deranged foaming at the mouth liberal.  Did you read his book on Jefferson?  Positively maddening.  He points out the many un-enlightened things that Jefferson did, the way Jefferson took part in turning the pro-slavery side from an economic justification to a racial one.  But ends every con-Jefferson point by saying that nevertheless Jefferson was a man of the enlightenment.  His proof that Jefferson was a man of the enlightenment is that Jefferson was an atheist.  But Jefferson never said he was an atheist, in fact Jefferson used religious arguments quite as much as any devout Founder.  Like I said Hitchens “logic” drives me batty.
