That Other Thompson

Shortly after his becoming a presidential candidate, Tommy Thompson spoke to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C., “I’m in the private sector, and for the first time in my life I’m earning money. You know, that’s sort of part of the Jewish tradition, and I do not find anything wrong with that.”
While dumb, it isn’t as bad as when he was Governor. Here in Wisconsin we have a very liberal, line-item veto. Then Gov. Thompson made the veto even more liberal by his creative deletion of periods, commas, words in order to make new sentences for which the Legislature didn’t pass into law. He left a bad practice for the future. I can picture him expanding the presidential ‘signing statements.’ Besides in the late 1970s we elected a man with a boyish nickname and Jimmy was our worst president ever; sorry, Tommy, we can’t take another chance.
I have not chosen anybody yet, mainly since it is only the Summer of ’07. I get to vote in the presidential primary next April. If you’re interested in Tommy his web site is tommy2008.com.
