The unbearable Heaviness of a Contested Primary

Living in California my primary vote has never mattered before.  Long before the primaries make their way to California the winner is clear and everyone else has dropped out.    So I could always vote for my favorite candidate and never worry about electability or any other factor save principle.

This year is different.  The contest is wide open and may stay wide open all the way to California.  Suddenly my vote has consequences.  I can vote for the only true conservative, Duncan Hunter, in the race.  Or I can vote for the next best thing in order to keep the party from nominating someone worse.  I can vote my principles or I can vote for second best.  If I can figure out who is second best.  It’s a quandary.   Other than Huckabee and Paul the other candidates have the same awful mix of good and bad stands.  Between McCain, Guiliani and Romney I don’t have a preference.   I am not sure what I will do.  If the rest of the party would come to it’s senses and rally to Duncan Hunter it would make things a lot easier for me.  Not to mention better for the country.

My State government moved up our presidential primary from our Spring General election to the Spring primary election on February 19. I watched the debates but I am not moved toward anybody yet. Me-too Republicanism seems to be back. I shan’t sit back and allow the Democratics to rule for another 60 years with their moderate Republican fools only happy that their rulers give them limo fare.
