Figure Skating and The Speech
Lordy figure skating is corrupt. You have to hand it to Cinquantta in his desire to remain firmly in power, as head of the International Skating Union, he came up with the most labyrinthine judging system imaginable. Code Of Points is so complicated and overflowing with minutiae that the judges can cheat as much as they want and no one can figure it out. So the best pairs team doesn’t even make the podium. Neither does one of the best ladys, but a ghastly skater who bobbled and steped out and two footed her way through short and long gets the silver. If Nixon had Cinquannta working for him, he would have been in the oval office till the day he died.
Which brings me to The Speech. Everyone has had their two cents, but even the most angry white man seems to have missed the point here. Never mind the evasions and the moral equivocating and dissing grandma. At the end of that mass of evasions worthy of a Russian skating judge are some concrete proposals. Each more horrible than the last. Obama’s speech extended the status of victim needing reparation to Hispanics, Asians, women, blue collar workers, just about everyone except white men with jobs. His actual proposal was for massive government programs that would make the great society look libertarian in comparison. Obama’s economic policies are straight out of Das Kapital and his foreign policy can be summed up as “blame America first.” But he may lose the presidency because he insulted his grandmother.
Let’s hope Obama doesn’t hire Cinquannta.
