Oh Those Tolerant Democrats

His mentioning Asian Americans reminded me that one of the most famous Asian Americans in the country is not only a Republican, but was punished by President Clinton for being one. It was 1994 Kristi Yamaguchi had been invited to be a part of the Presidential envoy to the 1994 Lilliehammer winter Olympics, and accepted the invitation. Then someone at the Clinton White House called Kristi and asked her political affiliation. Kristi, whose great-grandparents had been put in internment camps by those great liberal icons Earl Warren and FDR, is a Republican. So President Clinton kicked Kristi off his Olympic envoy delegation.
Kristi is from Fremont CA, so even though the San Jose Mercury News is a very liberal paper they had to report this back in Jan. or Feb. of 1994. The paper even noted that Democratic athletes had served as Olympic envoys for GOP administrations. Nevertheless no one in the rest of the MSM felt compelled to report this insult to a Japanese-American icon. You know if it had been President Bush throwing Kristi off for being a Democrat we never would have stopped hearing about it.
Kristi was followed as skating superstar of course by first generation Chinese American Michelle Kwan. Michelle is currently serving as a Public Diplomacy Envoy in the Bush State Dept. I supposed Howard Dean would say both these remarkable young women are out of their minds.
