Happy Wisconsin Statehood Day

While Wisconsians do not observe any State holidays except those the federal union proclaims for us, I wish to make note of this day. It is the one hundred and sixtieth year since the Congress had approved our State to be equal to the original thirteen. Of a most important note Wisconsin came in as a Free State in order to balance the slave State of Texas.

On, Wisconsin!
Written by J. S. Hubbard and Charles D. Rosa
Composed by William T. Purdy

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Grand old badger state!
We, thy loyal sons and daughters,
Hail thee, good and great.
On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Champion of the right,
“Forward”, our motto
God will give thee might!”

BTW, the midi tune at the above site is a bit off. The Bud-beer t-v commercial did the song justice.
