And, They Are Off and Running

If you were watching NFL football pre-season game or NBC’s Beijing Olympic games last night, at 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. EDT or 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Left-Coast Time, you miss the kick-off debate between U.S. Senators B. Obama and J. McCain. Dr. Rick Warren who is the pastor at Saddleback Church hosted the forum. The junior Senator from Illinois was questioned first by Warren while the McCain waited in the “cone of silence,” then in the second hour McCain was ask the same question.

Ann Lewis who was on the Foxnews gave commentary afterward and it seem as she was attempting to dismiss Obama’s performance as his being tired. The excuse was he flew from Hawaii to Illinois then to California. Obama major graft was his answering the question if babies are persons by claiming it was a theological and scientific question. “It is below my pay scale” to be able to state if when a baby becomes a human. McCain quickly replied, “at conception.”

Senator McCain clearly was the most prepared for the unforeseen questions. He was quite Reaganesque with his humor. As President I thought he wouldn’t preach to us as Carter and Clinton had done. The Republican base should be relieved their candidate is ready to campaign and lead them. The loser was former U.S. House Representative Bob Barr who is running on the Libertarian ticket; Barr lost any gain from Conservative Republicans disappointment with McCain.

The most memorable quote came from Dr. Warren. About the Thomas Jefferson’s letter saying there was a wall of separation between church and state:

there is no separation between faith and politics.
