Colonel Bogey’s March

Instapundit had this quote on his site a couple of days ago:

UPDATE: Barry Dauphin thinks it’s psychological: “One thing I have noticed. No matter who McCain is up against (be it Republicans or Democrats), he has an uncanny ability to get under the skin of his opponents. Most of his opponents become virtually apoplectic at some point. They make mistakes. And he simply smiles.”

The minute I read it I pictured Alec Guiness in Bridge Over the River Kwai, driving that poor Japanese Commander to hari kari.  A POW has no way of fighting his enemy except through mental toughness.  Is the meltdown of the Obama campaign really just the “madness, madness” that comes over one when faced with an opponent with infinite mental strength?

Now I know what you are thinking, Alec Guinesss went crazy in that movie too.  But remember the young, abrasive William Holden set everything right in the end.
