Predictions 2009
I got two whole predictions right last year, so I am feeling cocky.
It doesn’t matter who wins the men’s event at Nationals, NBC’s coverage will be propping Evan Lysacek and Scott Hamilton will get out the slow motion to prove that Evan should have won. Hamilton makes money off of Lysacek and that is all that matters to Scott.
The Ladies’ event will be won by one of the 25 Ladies entered. There are half a dozen that are equally good and equally inconsistent and another half dozen waiting to profit from other’s inconsistencies. During the glory of the Michelle Years people complained endlessly about her “boring” consistency. Now they are screaming for just a hint of that same old boring hum drum clean free skate year after year. I laugh in their face.
Mao Asada or Yuna Kim will deserve to win Worlds, or maybe both. No matter how she skates Carolina Kostner is on the podium and if she can stay off her butt the Euro-weenie judges will give her the title.
The Russians win ice dance at Worlds in preparation for them being handed the title next year in Vancouver.
Men at Worlds like ladies at Nationals is totally up for grabs. If Brian Joubert can stay on his feet he wins, but that is a big if. Jeremy Abbot, Patrick Chan and Takahiko Kozuka will be more enjoyable to watch than Joubert no matter how they skate.
Barack Obama achieved our nation’s highest office by skulking around the corners of Chicago politics, letting the corruption and malfeasance of others propel him forward. Then he ran a 100% content free campaign the success of which proved P.T. Barnum was right. Now he has what he wants and the world’s eyes are looking to him for guidance and leadership. There is no place for him to hide, no way to vote present and no one above his pay grade. He is going to make Carter look competent.
