Left and Right
A commentator over at Pajamas Network says that he is afraid Obama will turn into a Nixon of the “left.” http://pajamasmedia.com/victordavishanson/obamas-path-not-taken/ Okay one more time people: Nixon was a Nixon of the left. Whatever he pretended to be, whatever party he represented Nixon governed as much from the Left as LBJ. Wage and Price controls? Are you kidding me? The government setting wages and prices, no free marketer ever could have thought of that. Creating the EPA which thinks property rights must never get in the way of endangered rats. Abandoning Taiwan, hugging Mao, Detente? Left, Left and further to the Left. Nixon and Kissinger got forgiven by the MSM for bombing Cambodia because they spent the 80′s criticizing Reagan and agreeing with every liberal point against Reagan.
The fact is between Calvin Coolidge and Ronald Reagan we didn’t have a man of the Right in the White House. Even when they had an R after their name. And, here’s the rub, since Reagan we haven’t had a man of the Right in the White House. (Two Bushes don’t make a Right.) It is easy to be a Republican, it is hard to be a Conservative.
