Nancy and the Astroturfers

Last tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that the healthcare protestors were not true grassroots, but “astroturf”. The implication, of course, is that they are artificial and manufactured protestors.

The site Looking at the Left has a photo-essay on a visit by Speaker Pelosi to Denver.

Here are just a couple of the pictures from that photo essay, with a question.

Ok. Take a look at the signs. Which are handmade? Which are manufactured? And nametags!??! Tell me again, Speaker Pelosi … which side is “astroturf”?

Go and check out the entire photo-essay. I especially like the day-workers who were asked (in Spanish) if they knew what the signs they were holding said, and they replied “who knows?”. Oh, and the kid with the CCCP t-shirt who was there for “100% free health-care for everybody”. Well, at least he believed in truth in advertising.
