Winston Smith Call Your Doctor

Just last week the World Health Organization started recommending that swine flu patients be given anti-viral medicine at the first sign of flu.  Just last week, and this epidemic has been going on since April.  Fortunately our pediatrician practices medicine instead of politics and doesn’t take his marching orders from government or inter-government agencies.  BurkeanSon went on anti-viral medicine at the first sign of swine.   (I am not going to say our doctor’s name for fear WHO police will start banging down his door for unlawfully treating sick kids.)

As I wrote at the time http://marlettsmith.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=950 getting the anti-viral meds took a long conversation with the insurance company.  Well it seemed long at the time but it was actually less than an hour.  But here’s the thing, the insurance company was only deciding whether they would pay for it, not if we could have the medicine.  If the insurance company hadn’t paid for it, we would have out of our own pocket.  Since Dodd and Franks ruined the economy that would have been a financial hardship, Tamiflu is $100.  Still we would have paid the money, given our son the medicine and I would have sold a few extra tsotchkes on ebay.

But that’s what private insurance gives you, always the option to pay for it yourself.  Under Obamacare of course you take the medicine the government gives you and like it.  If a government bureaucracy says the WHO doesn’t recommended anti-virals for the flu, then you don’t get it, no questions.  There will be no paying out of pocket.  Except of course for that growing black market that always arises whenever gov’t controls a consumer good.   Then if your kid is sick you can see the Crips about getting Tamiflu.

This monstrosity has to be stopped.  Or come 2012 boy will I get to say I TOLD YOU SO!  And no one wants that.  Just remember Obamacare will treat your cancer with the same swiftness and efficiency they made swine flu vaccines appear.
