A Religious War Whether We Like It Or Not
Yes President Obam will not name our enemy. But before we conservatives howl we should remember that President Bush didn’t wan to name them either. President Bush bent over backwards to ensure that Muslims knew we weren’t at war with them and that their’s is a Religion of Peace. Obama is following in his predecessor’s footsteps. The fact of the matter is that a religous war is antithetical to everything this country stands for or was founded for. Our Founding Fathers wanted to keep the ancient hatreds and wars of religion off our soil, which is why the First Ammendment exists.
But whether we like it or not we are in a religious war. A war that has been going on for a thousand years. Just because we don’t want this war doesn’t mean we can get out of it. We didn’t want WW I or II or the Cold War either. But somehow those wars came just the same. We can choose not to fight this war. But we can’t choose for the war to exist. Our enemies will fight us, even if we don’t fight back. The only way to get out of this religious war is win it, unilaterally and unconditionally. The only way to defeat this enemy is to force them to live in the 21st century with the rest of us.
Banning the Burka and Niqab would be a vital step to winning this war that has been thrust upon us. As this excellent column by Barbara Kay makes clear http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/the-west-must-ban-the-burqa-and-nix-the-niqab/
