Inevitable
We are being constantly informed that same sex marriage will not lead to legalizing polygamy or any other derivation of marriage. I do not know why. Over at PJTV.com Vodkapundit called for legalizing polygamy. He didn’t know that was what he was doing. But in an episode of Trifecta he said that marriage should be only a religious matter with the state not involved at all. That would mean that Islam could practice polygamy in the United States same as in countries ruled by Sharia law. In fact the Mormons could bring back their old polygamy laws if they wanted to and no one could condemn them cause libertarians say it is just a private religious marriage. What about the Islamic rent a wife for a few hours, or the religious cults that force 12 year old brides to marry men older than their dad? All this would be perfectly legal if Vodkapundit gets his way. I dont’t think Vodkapundit was drinking anything when he came up with this, I think he was smoking something.
Make no mistake about it, once we end the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman we leave it up open to anything. No, no the libertarians cry don’t be absurd this only about same sex marriage not polygaymy. I don’t know why? I don’t know how if you can say that two same sex people who love each other is a marriage you can’t open that up to included three people or four or…
We are always told this latest liberal nightmare will not lead to more. Remember the Democrats on the floor of the Senate promising that affirmative action would not lead to quotas? How did that work out for us? So here’s the deal: let’s add a rider to all same sex marriage bills. If in the future same sex marriage is being used by courts to decide on a right to polygamy, all same sex marriages are declared null and void and the laws are struck down.
Cause if you don’t believe that 20 years from now polygamy will be in the same place that same sex marriage is right now, then you probably don’t think affirmative action brought about quotas. I am so sure of this I will put my money where my mouth is. I bet Vodkapundit $1000 that in 20 years the legalize polygamy movement will be taken as seriously as the same sex marriage movement is taken today. If I die first Burkeanson will cover my losses if neccassary.
