We don’t need the “electable” candidate

I hate people telling us that we must vote for the one who is the most “electable” candidate. Because, when it comes to Republicans, “electable” is code for “most like a Democrat”. They think that only a democrat, or one who is like a democrat can get elected. I am TIRED of actual conservative candidates being tossed by the wayside in favor of the “most electable” candidate … who then proceeds to demonstrate that he is not electable after all. Last time around, we lost Duncan Hunter to this kind of thinking.

If we are going to lose, let’s lose by our principles. But — and here is the thing — the people who are proclaiming to us which candidate is “electable” are doing one of two things. They are either playing upon our fears of losing the election and telling us that THEIR candidate is the only one who is “electable”. Or worse, they are actually planning for defeat by thinking in terms of ”let’s pick someone who is most like the other party”.

They are WRONG. The American People would be more than willing to vote for someone with principles. It’s when they are offered a choice between “Democrat” and “Democrat Lite” that they decide to go for the real Democrat. I mean, if you are going to have a Democrat, why not pick the Real Thing, right?

Herman Cain is the most unabashedly conservative candidate we have. The Florida Straw Poll picked him even when the pundits weren’t even MENTIONING him after the debates. He is the man we need for the upcoming election, and not just as a token VP on the ticket. He needs to be the top of the ticket. And the “electable” candidate, Romney? Pfeh. A Republican who is a success in a Blue state. Who brought Obamacare to his state before it was brought to the rest of the country. Pfeh again. Romney is “electable”. We need someone who can LEAD.

Hysterical blindness

Last week the wise and Solomon-like President Obama declared that the Palestinian/Israeli conflict could be solved by the simple act of returning Israel to the borders it had before it was attacked by the combined forces of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. The man is a genius! However … and this must clearly be my own shortcoming … I have looked over the map of the 1967 borders and do not see marked upon them a Palestinian State. This must be a hysterical blindness inflicted upon me by my own prejudices, because our Wise and Benevolent Leader would never have suggested such a thing unless it gave the Palestinians back their own state, would he have?

“The Weapon”, a book focusing on the struggle between an increasingly restrictive world government and a colony based upon libertarian (some might say anarchic) philosophy, was published in late 2005. It’s author, Michael Williamson, maintains that he thought he had been writing fiction when he wrote this (emphasis mine):

“If it’s not in your training, don’t try to do anything in case you make it worse.” No one is allowed surgical tools, weapons or fire extinguishers in their homes or cars because “such things are best left to professionals.”

And now here we are, only a bit more than half a decade later, and this triumph of the Nanny State now comes from Great Britain:

Fire extinguishers could be removed from communal areas in flats
throughout the country because they are a safety hazard, it has emerged.

The life-saving devices encourage untrained people to fight a fire
rather than leave the building, risk assessors in Bournemouth decided.

There are some things that just leave me too speechless to comment rationally upon. This is one of them.

Fayetteville, North Carolina, home of Fort Bragg, is planning a 10-day celebration and homecoming this November to honor Vietnam Vets. As part of this celebration, Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne has decided to “honor” the Vets by showing two anti-war films that include Jane Fonda. As in “Hanoi Jane.” This is how they plan to “honor” Vietnam vets.
